Los Angeles Clippers announced that power forward Serge Ibaka will miss the rest of the playoffs after undergoing back surgery Thursday. Ibaka only played two games in the playoffs before injuring his back. Ibaka has been struggling with injuries throughout the season; he only played 41 out of 72 games this season.
This is a tough blow for a Clippers team that has championship aspirations. Currently, the Clippers are down 0-2, too, the Utah Jazz in the second round of the playoffs. However, the Clippers could use Ibaka’s presence on the court as they struggle with Jazz big man and 3-time defensive player of the year Rudy Gobert. Ibaka’s ability to stretch the floor and defend is needed for a struggling Clippers team right now.
It will be hard for the Clippers to come back from 0-2 without Serge Ibaka. Don’t count the Clippers out, though, as they were down 0-2 the last series against the Dallas Mavericks, so they have shown resilience in the playoffs.
