Rick Carlisle steps down as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks.

24 hours after Donnie Nelson, the president of basketball operations and GM was fired from the Dallas Mavericks, Rick Carlisle informed the organization that he won’t return next season. After 13 illustrious seasons including the 2011 NBA Championship, Rick Carlise has the most wins in franchise history as head coach of the Mavericks.

Rick Carlisle will be the top coach available and with recent vacancies in New Orleans, Washington, Portland, and the Brad Stevens promotion in Boston, it will be an interesting offseason. Several people in various NBA circles are monitoring the Milwaukee Bucks situation closely, if the Bucks are unable to make the Eastern Conference finals then they may be looking for a coach this offseason.

Mark Cuban has his work cut for him this summer, he has to fill both the coaching and general manager vacancies. It will be interesting to see Mark Cuban’s approach to fill these roles, hopefully, he has 1st team All NBA Luka Doncic’s input on all of these decisions.
