A little over a week ago, the Dallas Mavericks lost Rick Carlisle as their head coach and GM Donn Nelson. The Mavericks didn’t take long to Carlisle’s and Nelson’s replacement. The Dallas Mavericks hired Jason Kidd as their new head coach and Nico Harrison as GM and president of basketball operations.
This will be Kidd’s third stint as a head coach of an NBA team, with his first stint being in Brooklyn and his 2nd stint being in Milwaukee. As a head coach Kidd has made the playoffs three times, once with Brooklyn and twice with Milwaukee. After being fired from Brooklyn and Milwaukee, Kidd got an assistant coach job with the Los Angeles Lakers. Kidd Helped coach the Lakers to the 2020 NBA Championship, where the Lakers beat the Miami Heat. This will be Kidd’s second time being a part of the Mavericks organization, with his first coming as a player when he helped the Mavericks win a ring and his second coming now as their head coach.
Harrison spent time as a Nike executive. While at Nike, Nico was also an NBA representative and marketing rep. Nico helped promote big name players such as Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and Kobe Bryant. Making the Jump may not be easy for Harrison, but the Mavericks organization believes Harrison has what it takes to be an NBA GM.
Jason Kidd and Nico Harrison will have a great young player in Luka Doncic to work with when they first get to Dallas. The Mavericks offseason isn’t done just yet as they have to figure out if Kristaps Porzingas is a part of their future.
