Duke Basketball landed its second commitment in the 2022 recruiting class. Sunday night, 5-star small forward Dariq Whitehead announced he was committing to the Duke Blue Devils via Twitter. Whitehead joins Kyle Filipowski as the only two duke commits in the 2022 class.
Dariq Whitehead is a 6-foot-6 190 pound small forward from Newark, New Jersey, but he currently attends Montverde Academy in Florida. Whitehead is ranked as the No.6 ranked recruit in 2022 and the No.3 small forward in the class of 2022. Whitehead is a good defender as he is able to keep the ball in front, and he showed the ability to defend small forwards and shooting guards.
Whitehead turned heads this summer when he played for team Durant in the Nike EYBL circuit. In the Nike EYBL circuit, Whitehead put up averages of 16.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. This summer, after his performances this summer it earned him an offer from the G league where it was a reported $500,000 contract.
Whitehead’s commitment shows that top players aren’t scared to go to duke after Coach K said that he plans on retiring after the 2021-22 season. Duke fans should continue to put faith in John Scheyer to get good recruits in the future after he becomes the next Duke basketball head coach.
