An eight-game NBA slate on Tuesday, December 28th, will spotlight former MVPs, long injury lists will force us to trust newcomers and forgotten players, Covid-19 health and safety protocols updates, losing streaks snapped and started, and so much more. Last nights’ NBA action showcased so many high light moments: Ja Morant’s game-winner, Nikola Vucevic flashing his dominance, Kristaps Porzingis putting the Mavericks on his back, Nassir Little going for 50 fantasy points, James Harden turning back the clock to 2018, Devin Booker shaking off the rust and any signs of it, and players that maximized their value for their price. In this article, I’ll focus on providing great value plays for tonight’s games: players at reduced costs with the potential to reward you in your DFS tournaments. Make sure to stay updated with all of the news, lineup projections and injuries before tip-off. Good luck & Happy Holidays.
Jaylen Nowell(MIN)-4,000 Vs. NYK
After achieving career highs in points(29), rebounds(6), three-pointers made(6) & an insane poster dunk on Jabari Parker, Jaylen Nowell has now made a name for himself after just one game. His teammate, Greg Monroe, was quoted saying, “ Not gonna lie, Jaylen Nowell played great tonight, but I didn’t know Who He was.”(Greg, we just found out that you were back, too). Most DFS players didn’t know who Nowell was, rostered in 8% of tournaments last night. His price didn’t move despite gaining 10.7x value on his $4,000 fee. Thirty-four minutes was Nowell’s season-high, so we have to monitor this Timberwolves situation closely daily. To achieve five times the value, Jaylen Nowell would need 20 Fanduel fantasy points.
RJ Hampton(ORL)-$5,300 Vs. MIL
The Orlando Magic didn’t have any concerns about RJ Hampton’s conditioning after being sidelined in Covid-19 health and safety protocols for four games. He saw 31 minutes, contributing in all statistical categories for a 31.7 Fanduel fantasy point output. With up to 12 players at potential risk to miss Tuesday’s game vs. Milwaukee, we could consistently see elevated minutes for Hampton. Monitor the status of Cole Anthony heading into tonight’s game & if Anthony misses the action, Hampton is an automatic lock. To reach five times the cost and become a great value play, RJ Hampton would have to earn 26.5 Fanduel fantasy points.
Malik Monk(LAL)-$4,500 Vs. HOU
After a five-game absence, Malik Monk stormed back into the rotation with 35 minutes for the Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas vs. Brooklyn. 20 points, four rebounds, three assists, and one block were the final stat line for Monk. Looking deeper past the box score, the Lakers need more than LeBron James playing out of his mind to get out of this losing streak. They need more contributions from the others, especially without Anthony Davis. A player that can be relied on in scoring is Malik Monk & He’s the perfect pivot from Talen Horton-Tucker, who’s $300 more. The matchup Vs. Houston is the ideal opportunity for the Lakers to snap their losing streak. Tonight’s over/under of 224.5 suggests more fantasy points being scored from this matchup all around. To reach five times the cost and become a great value play, Malik Monk would need 22.5 Fanduel fantasy points.
Gary Payton(GSW)-$5,500 Vs. DEN
30.3, 28.2, 28.9, 28.6 are the last 4 Fanduel fantasy point games for Gary Payton. During the previous two contests, Payton is averaging 31.5 minutes, and the trust continues to grow with Head Coach Steve Kerr- Tonight’s match Vs. Denver will see Gary Payton in the lineup with Jordan Poole, and Damion Lee sidelined. The Warriors are 7 point favorites tonight at home & what you can trust about the well-oiled machine Warriors: their role players will always be involved, thriving in the roles given. To reach five times his cost and become a great value play, Gary Payton would need 27.5 Fanduel fantasy points.
Deni Avdija(WAS)-$5,300 Vs. MIA
The Washington Wizards are another NBA team losing quality options on the depth chart due to injuries and health & safety protocols- most recently, Montrezl Harrell & Raul Neto. Washington is also quickly running out of reasons not to play Deni Avdija more minutes. He’s been consistent with fantasy points scored this season despite only having a season-high of 30 minutes @ Utah two games ago. Avdija’s in-game play has been constant, participating in all statistical categories. Tonight’s game Vs. Miami is tough until you discover the Heat’s inactive players list. Plug Deni Avdija into your lineup, knowing He gives you quality fantasy points in 30 minutes or less. You’ll feel better checking in 30 minutes before game time, confirming Avdija in the Washington Wizards starting lineup. To reach five times the cost & become a great value play, Avdija would need 26.5 Fanduel fantasy points.
Nathan Knight(MIN)-$3,800 Vs. NYK
With Karl Anthony Towns and Naz Reid sidelined, I will see Nathan Knight as an excellent value play. This move has a lot of potential because of opportunity and usage increase. I had the thought, ”Who will be the guy to soak up the minutes with KAT & NAZ out?” The answer was right in front of our faces, Nathan Knight. $3,800 is a salary saver, especially when adding the premier studs to your lineup. Tonight will be the last time Knight’s price will be below $4,000. To reach five times the cost and become a great value play, Knight would need 19 Fanduel fantasy points.
D.J. Wilson(TOR)-5,500 Vs. PHI
Wilson’s stardom twinkled brightest on December 26th, collecting 33 minutes en route to 46.6 Fanduel fantasy points. A stat sheet stuffing, eye-popping performance for D.J. Wilson led to the significant price increase. Once some of the Raptors return from their absences, Wilson’s production will likely reduce. Monitor the status of Pascal Siakam heading into tonight’s game, and be sure to check the starting lineups for confirmation of Wilson’s role. For one night, everything could come together again for Wilson. We may have to reduce our expectations of Wilson’s fantasy scoring with Philadelphia coming to town, but what if He’s of importance again. To reach five times the cost and become a great value play, Wilson would need 27.5 Fanduel fantasy points.
Omer Yurtseven(MIA)-$5,400 Vs. WAS
Omer Yurtseven has stepped into quality minutes for Miami with injuries to Bam Adebayo(thumb), P.J. Tucker(leg) & Dewayne Dedmon(sprained MCL). Over the last five contests, Yurtseven has 12-plus rebounds in each game. Yurtseven can showcase confidence scoring & getting others involved against the Washington Wizards- ranking 29th against Centers this season. With the inactives for Washington, it could present the perfect opportunity for Yurtseven to be a nice pivot from the overpriced Centers on tonight’s slate. To reach five times the cost and become a great value play, Omer Yurtseven would need 27 Fanduel fantasy points.
