The Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs are set to face off against each other again in the College Football Playoff National Championship game. The first meeting between these two goliaths happened in the SEC Championship, where Alabama upset Georgia 41-24. In this rematch, expect players to step up and play a significant role in this game.
5. Ja’Corey Brooks
Crimson Tide’s true freshman receiver Ja’Corey Brooks emerged as an integral part of the offense in the past couple of games. So far this season, Brooks has caught 9 passes for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns. I know those numbers don’t jump off the stat sheet, but Brooks has made big plays when needed. In the past 3 games, Brooks has caught 7 passes for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns. One of those touchdowns was the game-tying touchdown that helped save Alabam’s season.
When Alabama went up against Georgia in the SEC Championship game, Brooks only caught 1 pass for 9 yards. But that game was different as John Metchie was healthy for most of that game. Now Alabama will be without Metchie and will need players to step up. Expect brooks to be a player that steps up in the National Championship.
4. Brock Bowers
If you have watched Georgia this season, you should be familiar with the name Brock Bowers. However, if you are not, let me introduce you; Bowers is a true freshman tight end that has racked up 52 catches for 854 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. Bowers leads the Bulldogs in both receiving yards and touchdowns.
In the SEC Championship game, Bowers hauled in 10 catches for 139 yards and 1 touchdown. Alabama had no answer for him in that game. Now Bowers will be going up against this Crimson Tide defense once again. Though the tide’s defense won that game, the tide’s defense still has problems. I’m confident that Bowers will still positively impact Georgia in the National Championship game no matter what Alabama defense shows up.
3. Jordan Davis
Jordan Davis has been a force for the Bulldogs on the defensive side of the ball. This season Davis has 30 total tackles, 4 tackles for a loss of yards, and 2 sacks. No, Davis isn’t the best defensive player on this Bulldog’s defense. Still, Davis is a player to watch because Alabama might be without Emil Ekiyor Jr and Chris Owens in the National Championship game. An already struggling Alabama offensive line will likely keep struggling if these two players are out. So Jordan Davis will look to wreak havoc against the Crimson tide’s Offensive line.
2. Brian Robinson Jr
Since arriving on campus five years ago, Brian Robinson has waited his turn to get the opportunity to start in a National Championship game. Robinson is having the best season of his collegiate career. Robinson Jr has rushed for 1,268 yards and 14 touchdowns. When Robinson Jr went up against Georgia’s defense, he only rushed for 55 yards. But he wasn’t 100-percent in that game. In the Cotton Bowl against Cincinnati, Robinson Jr rushed for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns. In the Cotton Bowl, it was said that Robinson Jr was 100-percent.
With Robinson Jr putting up that performance when fully healthy makes this game even more interesting. Robinson Jr will get a chance to play healthy against a good Georgia defense.
1. Stetson Bennett IV
Stetson Bennett IV will be under a microscope in this game. Yes, Bennett has played well this season. Actually. Bennett has exceeded everybody’s expectations. The only problem is that he played poorly when Georgia needed Bennett the most in the SEC Championship against Alabama. In the SEC Championship game, Bennett threw for 34o yards and 3 touchdowns, but he also threw 2 interceptions. The first pick happened in the endzone, and the second interception was returned for a touchdown. Those interceptions ended up being a 14-point swing in that game. Now going into the National Championship Bennett can’t make those same mistakes, and if he doesn’t, then Georgia has a good chance of ending the season as National Champions.
