College Football: Week 0 Recap

College football is back, and week 0 ended with some impressive games. And I’m here to break down what happened in college football this past weekend.

Nebraska 28-Northwestern 31

If you followed college football last year or even just Nebraska, you would know that Scott frost and the Cornhuskers are prone to making mistakes and losing close games. And once again, they made mistakes and lost a close, but this loss was avoidable. After having an impressive first half and only being down 17-14, Nebraska came out of the locker room and scored two unanswered touchdowns early in the third quarter.

One of those touchdowns came off a fumble recovery that seemed to suck the momentum of the Wildcats. Sadly, Scott Frost pulled a Scott Frost special after going up 28-17-Frost decided to kick an on-side kick with 9:09 left in the 3rd quarter. And Northwestern recovered it and was set up with good field position not too long after the Wildcats scored making the score 28-24. Yes, Nebraska was still winning, but the momentum was sucked away from them. Northwestern ended up scoring one more touchdown and closing the game out. This was the first college football game in Ireland and Scott Frost made a good impression on the fans there.

Illinois 38-Wyoming 6

Illinois again ruled week 0 this year, and it wasn’t close. Starting the game, Illinois ran the ball with Chase Brown busting a 38-yard run, and on the next play, Tommy Devito found Brown for a touchdown. After another Chase Brown touchdown and a couple of missed and made field goals, Illinois went into the half up 17-3. After both teams came out of the locker room, it was agian all Illinois. Wyoming scored just a field goal in the 2nd half. The fighting Illini, on the other hand, was on fire as Chase Brown, Pat Bryant, and Reggie Love III all scored touchdowns in the 2nd half.

Quick Recaps

Austin Peay 27 Western Kentucky 38 –This game was entertaining as both of these teams came out and put on a show. Both teams’ offenses showed up to play as this game was close until the middle of the 4th quarter. Around that time is when Western Kentucky pulled away and won the game.

Utah State 31-Uconn 20 – Uconn jumped out to an early 14-0 lead until Utah State scored 24 unanswered points. After that, the Huskies’ offense was dormant until they scored two field goals making it 20-24. But Utah State put the game out of reach after Logan Bonner connected with Kyle Van Leeuwen for a touchdown.

Vanderbilt 63-Hawaii 10 – Arguably, the 2nd most talked-about game heading into this week was Vanderbilt vs. Hawaii. College football fans didn’t know what to expect because both these teams were coming g in with new faces, and both are projected to be bad this season. We quickly found out that Vanderbilt did not come to play as they put their foot on the gas and never took it off. Vanderbilt’s quarterback Mike Wright totaled 309 all-purpose yards and 4 touchdowns.

Week 0 of college football was a success and next week there will be even more college football with even more games. And I will keep y’all updated weekly with these articles.
